Sports & Recreation Officer

Brief Summary of role:

Kalano Community Association is seeking a motivated and community-focused Sport and Recreation Officer to support the delivery of sport, recreation, cultural, and wellbeing programs across Kalano, Rockhole, and the wider community.

The Sport and Recreation Officer plays a key role in strengthening community engagement, promoting healthy lifestyles, and encouraging participation through the delivery of inclusive, safe, and enjoyable activities for people of all ages. Working directly with community members, the successful applicant will help identify local interests and emerging needs, ensuring programs remain relevant, engaging, and responsive to community needs. The role also contributes to the planning, monitoring, and continuous improvement of programs through accurate record keeping, community feedback, and collaboration with the Executive Manager to ensure activities align with community priorities and Kalano’s strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver regular sport, recreation, cultural, and wellbeing activities that meet the needs of Kalano, Rockhole, and wider community members.
• Actively participate in program delivery, ensuring activities are safe, inclusive, engaging, and enjoyable for all participants.
• Build positive relationships with community members and encourage participation across all age groups.
• Consult with community members to identify interests, emerging needs, and opportunities for new programs and activities.
• Collect, document, and report community feedback to support program planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
• Maintain accurate attendance records and capture participation data, activity outcomes, and program summaries.
• Assist with the development and distribution of promotional materials, including posters, schedules, and community communications.
• Support the planning and coordination of sport, recreation, cultural, and wellbeing initiatives.
• Contribute ideas and recommendations for program enhancements and new initiatives that promote health, wellbeing, and community connection.
• Maintain regular communication with the Executive Manager regarding program delivery, outcomes, challenges, and community feedback.
• Ensure activities are delivered in accordance with Kalano policies, community priorities, and the responsible use of organisational resources.
• Promote a positive, respectful, and culturally appropriate environment for all participants.

Renumeration & Benefits

Employment Type: Casual

Salary Range: $45.88 per hour inc. casual loading

Location: 1/42 Katherine Terrace, Big Rivers Family Centre

The successful applicant should possess the following:

• Certificate III or IV in Sport & Recreation, or Community Services (or willing to obtain)
• Experience working with vulnerable people from a strength-based framework.
• Competent use of computer software packages such as word, excel, email and internet.
• Sound work ethics – reliability, honesty, confidentiality, responsibility
• Ability to work effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse people including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and people who have been born overseas.
• Ability to work in a team as well as unsupervised.
• Willingness to undertake further training as required

Mandatory before commencement:

• Valid NT Drivers License
• Valid NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card)
• National Police Check
